Sea the Moon (born April 29, 2011 ) is a German racehorse .

The English thoroughbred stallion was bred by Sea the Stars out of Sanwa , daughter of the stallion Monsun , in 2011 at the Görlsdorf stud farm located 80 km north-east of Berlin in the Uckermark .

Racing career

After victories in the Frankfurt Derby qualification and the Union race, he won the German Derby in 2014 with 11 lengths . Only Orofino from Zoppenbroich managed to win the derby in 1981 with an even bigger lead over the runner-up. For this performance, Sea The Moon received a very high GAG (general compensation) of 102 kg. Due to an injury, he was only able to compete in the Baden Grand Prix , where he was visibly battered and still took a good second place.

Breeding career

The owners then decided to end his racing career and list him in the Lanwades Stud of Kirsten Rausing, the granddaughter of Tetra Pak founder Ruben Rausing , as a stud stallion for a stud fee of 15,000 pounds. In 2018, his first offspring came to the racetrack when they were two years old and were very successful straight away. His son Noble Moon won the Winter Favorite Prize (Group III), the most important race for two-year-olds in Germany, and his son Quest The Moon won the Baden Baden Future Race (Group III). Overall, Sea The Moon won the 2018 stallion championship for two-year-olds in Germany. Since both his first sire Sea The Stars and his second sire Monsun inherited little precociousness and Sea The Moon only won one Maiden race at the age of two, this impressive debut as a stallion came as a surprise.

At the age of three, Sea The Moons first year could not meet the expectations raised two years in 2019. The highly traded winter favorite Noble Moon disappeared after two races sang and soundless in the sinking and the other three-year-old hopefuls also fell significantly in terms of performance in the course of 2019. With the impressive Racibórz winner Wonderful Moon and the mare Alpine Star , bred by the Niarchos family in Ireland , Sea The Moon once again produced two two-year hopefuls for 2020 in 2019.
