The Seamill Center , also known as Seamill House , is a former nursing home in the Scottish town of Seamill in the North Ayrshire council area . In 1996 the structure was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in the highest monument category A.

history

The building was constructed in two phases from 1893 for the Scottish Co-operative Society . William Barclay paid for the construction costs of the second section . The architecture firm Bruce and Hay provided the design for the building . In 1902 the work was completed and the premises were subsequently used as a nursing home. Later on, the Scottish branch of the Christian Youth Movement moved into the Seamill Center on a mission .

The two-story building with an H-shaped floor plan is located on the slope of a hill on the southern edge of Seamill. The masonry consists of cream-colored sandstone carved into blocks . Muntin windows are installed throughout the various building sections . A tower with a square floor plan rises up on the north side. The upper floor is partially worked with dormer windows . The gable roofs are covered with gray slate. The gables are made as a stepped gable . Stylistically, the Seamill Center has the characteristics of the Scottish Baronial Style .
