economy
Above all, it has also been the home of a large part of the workforce at the Sellafield nuclear reprocessing plant for decades . It also relies economically with some historical sights and the sea beach location on tourism activities. Seascale also has a rail connection.
Reprocessing plant
The city gained international fame due to its proximity (around 1.5 kilometers) to the Sellafield reprocessing plant. This not only shows positive economic effects. Rather, in the population for a long time one is significant leukemia - cluster registered one compared to the national average by the multiple increased rate of blood cancer diseases (see also. Krümmel nuclear power plant ). This is mainly attributed to the radioactivity emissions by circles who are critical of the plant. In the opinion of the Radiation Protection Commission on Ionizing Radiation and Leukemia Diseases of Children and Adolescents of August 18, 1994, it is stated that in Seascale for the period 1950-1983 a noticeable increase in leukemia diseases in children and adolescents was observed, but this is not a trend which suggests that this frequency increases with increasing proximity to the plant.
