Sebastià Congost i Pla

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sebastià Congost i Pla , also known for short as Sebastià Congost (born September 1919 in Olot ; † August 7, 2009 ibid) was a Catalan painter who followed the tradition of the Olot School . Sebastià Congost is the brother of the Catalan poet Josep Congost i Pla .

Congost graduated from the "Escola Menor de Belles Arts" (School of Fine Arts and Crafts) and the "Escola Superior de Paisatge" (Art School for Landscape Painting) in Olot. Like many of his fellow Olotensian artists, he devoted part of his work to religious visual art. With his work he had a great influence on Catalan painting in the first half of the 20th century. His objects were predominantly mountain and sea landscapes. But he also artistically portrayed urban scenes (such as the weekly market in Olot). In his compositions one can often find people and horses whose artistic representation he particularly loved. The art expert Joan Sala i Plana artistically characterized Congost in 2008 in the "Revista de Girona" as follows: The most important characteristic of Congost is its broad brushstroke, which only makes the absolutely necessary strokes and thus always spreads the character of a fresh, spontaneous work. His graphics offer a certain reminder of the broad brushstrokes of Vincent van Gogh .
