Sebastián Ariel Romero (born April 27, 1978 in Buenos Aires ) is a former Argentine football player.
Romero began his professional career in 1996 with the Argentine first division club Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata in his native Buenos Aires. After three years in which Romero came on 80 missions and 12 goals, he moved to Europe and Betis Sevilla for the first time . The Argentine played for the Spaniards until January 2001 and during this time he made a total of 30 appearances in the Primera División . From Seville, the player was then loaned to the French first division club FC Toulouse until the summer of 2001 (seven appearances, one goal) before he moved to Córdoba CF for one season (13 appearances) in August of the same year, also on loan . Since Romero could not establish himself at any European club up to this point, he finally returned to his home country in 2002 and signed a contract with the first division club Racing Club Avellaneda . In the following four years Romero came to 114 appearances and scored 14 goals. From then on he was one of the top performers at Racing Club and became the captain of his team. In the summer of 2006 Romero ventured again to Europe and this time moved to the Greek club Panathinaikos Athens . He played there until 2008 and scored a total of four goals in 36 games in two years. In 2008 he moved back to Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata. There he reached with his team twice in the relegation games the class stay.
In mid-2010 Romero joined league rivals CA Banfield before moving to Quilmes AC a year later . There he played until 2016. After another season at Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata, he returned to Quilmes, who now played in the Primera B Nacional . He ended his career in 2018.
National team
Romero was appointed to the Argentine national football team and came there in a friendly against Mexico for a use.
Play style
Romero is an attacking midfielder, preferring to play on the right attacking side.
