Sebastián Pozas

Sebastián Pozas Perea (* 1876 in Saragossa , † 1946 in Mexico City ) was a Spanish general who fought in the service of the Second Spanish Republic during the Spanish Civil War. He served as Director General in the Guardia Civil before the Spanish Civil War .

When the Spanish military launched a coup with units of the Guardia Civil, Pozas reorganized the Guardia Civil into the Guardia Nacional Republicana . He served briefly as Minister of the Interior after the military coup, when he was given command of the Central Army along the Jarama River in October 1936 . In this role he organized the defense around Madrid . During the battles of the Jarama and Guadalajara , he coordinated the defense of Madrid . In May 1937 Pozas took over command of the East Army . In this capacity he ordered a very costly attack on Huesca . He also had high command of the East Army at the Battle of Belchite and Teruel . In 1939, after the defeat of the Spanish Republic, Pozas emigrated to Mexico , where he died in 1946.
