Sebastian Bärlocher ( February 9, 1838 in Thal - May 21, 1902 in Rheineck ) was a Swiss textile industrialist.

Life

Bärlocher came from a modest background. He works as an embroidery draftsman in a Rheineck broderie shop. In 1868 Bärlocher founded his own company for the manufacture of chain stitch embroidery for curtains (awards at the world exhibitions in Vienna in 1873 and Paris in 1878), whereby the embroidered tulle curtains were made partly in the factory and partly in home work.

He was also a local councilor, district school councilor and deputy district administrator. From 1880 to 1902 he was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of St. Gallen (member of important commissions), and also leader of the Rhine Valley Liberals. In 1869 Bärlocher bought the Löwenhof in Rheineck, built in the baroque style.

He was married to Emma Custer, daughter of the mayor Viktor Custer and an architect in Rheineck.
