Seborine

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Seborin is a brand in the Henkel Group that is sold under the Schwarzkopf brand . Seborin was originally just a hair lotion , in over 70 years of product development it has meanwhile become the generic term for an entire series of hair care products.

In 1934, Seborin was introduced “as a new, effective biological hair tonic to keep the scalp healthy in the fight against dandruff” (original advertising text 1934) in the form of a heavy, brown and strongly fluted bottle. The name Seborin is a combination of the terms Sebor Rhoe (sebaceous glands disease) and Medic in . Originally, seborine was only sold in pharmacies .

At first, Seborin was only allowed to be used by the hairdresser and was not available for sale. This product was only later traded in pharmacies. After a sharp drop in sales in the years up to 1990, there has been an increase in sales since then.

Since 1979 Seborin contains the active ingredient Pirocton olamine , this is known under the brand name Octopirox®. Seborine shampoos that were introduced to the market in the 1970s also contain this active ingredient. In 1996 the Seborin family was expanded to include Seborin Active Hair Tonic. This contains ginger extract, which increases blood flow to the scalp, and pro-vitamin B5 (actually pantothenic acid ), which relieves irritation. In 2006 the caffeine energy shampoo was added to the Seborin product line.
