In the third space between the longitudinal furrows, the cover wings each have six small pore points, to which the species owes its German name. However, there are also individuals with four to eight such points per wing.

The animals are widespread in Europe, east to the Caucasus and Siberia . The species is rarely found in England. They can be found in forests, on the edge of fields, on dirt roads, meadows, moors, heaths and ruderal areas. They occur from the flat to the mountains and prefer sunny and humid places. They are common in Central Europe. The six-point plaster runners live hidden, for example under moss and stones. The adults hibernate, mating takes place in spring.
