Second wind AC

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Second Wind AC ( Japanese セ カ ン ド ウ ィ ン ド AC ) is a Japanese running club from the Chiyoda district in Tokyo Prefecture .

history

The Second Wind AC has a special position in Japan. Japanese elite runners are traditionally employed by the company teams of large commercial enterprises. Apart from international championships such as the Olympic Games and World Athletics Championships , they start almost exclusively in domestic races. The sponsors attach particular importance to good results at the Ekiden , especially long-distance relay races that are popular in Japan.

The Second Wind AC itself emerged from a company team, that of the cosmetics manufacturer Shiseido . Their coach Manabu Kawagoe founded the new club with some of their runners in April 2007 in order to be able to put more emphasis on the individual interests of the athletes. Second Wind AC runners regularly compete in major international road races .

Without a main sponsor, the association is mainly financed by participating in the prize money of its elite athletes and by membership fees.

Well-known athletes

The most successful members of Second Wind AC include Yuri Kanō , Akemi Ozaki , Kiyoko Shimahara and the British Mara Yamauchi .
