Secret Town is best known for its unusual place name. After prospectors found gold nearby, the prospectors wanted to keep the location a secret, which led to the unusual name.

The 335 m long and 29 m high wooden trestle bridge of the Central Pacific Railroad , like most bridges on this route, was filled in to build a railway embankment due to the risk of fire from flying sparks from the steam locomotives crossing it .
