Sea health insurance
The former maritime health insurance company , based in Hamburg , was founded in 1928 and was responsible for health insurance as part of the maritime social insurance until December 31, 2007 .
Insured
By law, the maritime health insurance was responsible for seafarers who are employed on board German seagoing ships and their family members. A right of choice existed for land workers who had previously worked in seafaring. In the past few years, shore workers from shipping companies who have not traveled through have also been able to become members of the Maritime Health Insurance Fund. Furthermore, students, pensioners and the unemployed could remain with the See-Krankenkasse if they were last insured or at an earlier point in time with the See-Krankenkasse.
organization structure
The See-Krankenkasse formed their own umbrella organization and was the general local health insurance , the company health insurance assimilated so.
Organizational reform in pension and accident insurance
Due to the organizational reform in the statutory pension insurance , which came into force on October 1, 2005, there were also changes in the sea health insurance.
To date, was the maritime fund , as a carrier of the pension of the Lake Social Security , responsible for the implementation of the health of seafarers. The health insurance tasks were carried out in a separate department called See-Krankenkasse . The departments were considered separately so that separate statutes and a separate budget were drawn up.
As a result of the organizational reform mentioned above, the Seekasse was separated from the marine social insurance network and was therefore no longer able to perform the tasks of the See-Krankenkasse.
The See-Krankenkasse had been independent since October 1, 2005 and carried out the tasks of statutory health insurance for seafarers as an independent provider.
The reform of the statutory accident insurance led to further changes in the maritime social insurance. In 2007, the meeting of representatives decided the need to merge the See-Krankenkasse with a larger partner by the end of 2008 at the latest. For the See-Krankenkasse, this meant that a tradition that had existed since January 1, 1928, was coming to an end .
On January 1, 2008, the Knappschaft in Bochum and the See-Krankenkasse (including See-Pflegekasse) in Hamburg merged to form a nationwide health insurance fund - the Knappschaft with its headquarters in Bochum.
