The Seeclub Sursee is a rowing club in Sursee on Lake Sempach . It was founded in 1917 and today has around 250 members.

Club history

Rowing boats in the Triechter

In 1917 the Seeclub Sursee was founded. It was only 60 years later that the Seeclub was able to celebrate first successes. The first Swiss championship was won by the Seeclub in 1973. Only 5 years later, Peter Albisser was able to compete as the first club member at a World Cup. Pia Vogel , who had won a world champion and junior vice world championship title, was also successful for the Seeclub several times.

The boathouse of the sea club changed several times. In 1917 a simple hut served as a clubhouse. This was then replaced by a real house, which was demolished 13 years after construction, because the Sursee cooperation, which owned the land, wanted to enlarge the quay facilities. The next clubhouse came next to today's one. In 1931 the new clubhouse in what is now the Badi Sursee was ready. But since the bathing establishment should be enlarged, the Seeclub Sursee had to give way again, but this time only a few meters. The clubhouse has been at the northeast end of Triechter since 1982. This has been renovated since 2010.

International rowing meeting Sursee

The Seeclub Sursee has held a regatta every year since 1972.

Traditionally, the GP Sempachersee takes place on Saturday, an eighth long-distance race over 6.5 km from Sempach to Sursee . In 2012 a record of 37 boats was recorded. On Sunday there will be a sprint regatta over 450 m in Triechter. In contrast to other regattas, spectators can stand parallel to the track and it is started at 3-minute intervals. The sprint regatta is one of the most popular regattas in Switzerland with around 1500 boats.
