history

The Kieler Seemannsmission was founded in 1898 by Kiel citizens with the support of Ev.-Luth. Regional church and the Nautical Association of Kiel founded. In 1935 the seaman's home in Kiel-Holtenau was inaugurated. In 2002 the Baltic Poller base was inaugurated there with the expansion of the Ostuferhafen in Kiel . In 2009, an international seaman's club with sports and play facilities as well as internet connections was opened in the Baltic Poller . In 2012, a support service was set up in the Seafarers' Lounge at the Ostseekai terminal for the crews of the cruise ships while they were berthing.

Club work

The full-time and voluntary employees of DSM Kiel are involved in the areas of on-board support, working in the lounge and the Baltic Poller seaman's club, visiting the hospital, working in the Holtenau seaman's home and in the house on the lock. They are supported by FSJ or BufDi employees.

Seafarers' lounge

The opening time of the Seafarers' Lounge is one hour after arrival to approximately one hour before departure of the cruise ships. In addition to free internet use, seafarers can also buy phone cards, Asian and other local food and other everyday items at fair prices. The Seafarers' Lounge is designed so that seafarers do not have to leave the ISPS area of ​​the port.

Sailing Club Baltic Poller

The Baltic Poller was set up in 2002 as a base for the seaman's mission in the new Ostuferhafen in Kiel . There are telephones and PCs with Internet connections so that the crew members can keep in touch with their families, as well as billiards, darts and table football games, sports equipment, a seating area and a small bar.
