Sea cock
Shut- off devices on the hull of a watercraft, which are arranged inboard behind a through-hull, are referred to as sea valves .
function
On larger ships it is always designed as a valve , on smaller vessels also as a shut-off valve . Sea valves are often inserted into the ship's side on both sides of the ship or mounted on sea chests . A seawater filter is usually connected .
The sea valve is used for the controlled water inlet through the ship's side for the engine cooling , for the fire extinguishing system, the deck wash pumps and for service water such as the toilet flush . Sea valves prevent water from entering the ship's hull in the event of defects or work on the connected service water pipes. For security reasons, they are kept closed when not in use.
Especially on warships there are sea valves that are used to flood the vehicle or parts of it.
