Sefer ha-Yashar
The Sefer ha-Yashar ( Book of Jasher , the Book of the Upright , possibly identical to Toldos Adam = History Adams ) is an anonymous Hebrew chapbook from the Middle Ages (written around 1200?), A retelling of the biblical stories of the Pentateuch and Book of Joshua with Fairytale-like decorations taken from the Midrash and with the addition of strange additions that made the rabbis suspicious, who also tried to censor it.
The authorship of Jona Gerondi is discussed . The Bible mentions a book of Jaschar, but because of the naming of Franza for France and Lumbardi in Italy for Lombardy, the 'Sefer ha-Jaschar' can be assumed to have originated in the Middle Ages.
