Side protection net

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A side protection net is used for personal safety and is mainly used as protective equipment for roof work, when building bridges and when working on platforms . They are used to protect people from falling on scaffolding and are officially known as the "Protective Net System U" (protective net in supporting structure for vertical use). Side protection nets also prevent tools or other building materials from falling onto people from scaffolding. They can be installed in roof safety scaffolding and the working level of facade scaffolding on construction sites . Here they have to be attached to the scaffolding spar and tightened.

Side protection nets are predominantly aligned vertically with their area.

A distinction is made between these personal safety nets, which are attached with their surface essentially horizontal. Its purpose is to intercept a fall in its vertical movement.

In order for a side protection net to be used as fall protection, EN 1263-1 and the safety rule BGR 179 must be met. In addition, the nets should be weatherproof and UV-resistant. The mesh size must not be more than 100 millimeters.

There is a test sticker on each side protection net with information about the last safety test. Side protection nets may only be used within 12 months of manufacture. If older nets are to be used, it must be proven beforehand that the minimum energy absorption capacity of the test mesh or test rope does not fall below the value specified by the manufacturer.

Side protection nets can be knotted or knotless. Knotted nets are made from twisted or braided yarn. They have a lower stretch and thus a better surface stability. The nets are made of polyethylene or polypropylene .
