The self-help association for bladder cancer e. V. (ShB) is a nationwide self-help organization for people with bladder cancer and their relatives. The association promotes public health care. The patron is the German Cancer Aid , which supports the activities of the ShB. An important purpose is to educate the public about the detection and treatment of urinary bladder cancer and all related problems so that therapeutic options can be used as quickly as possible.

history

The Self-Help Association for Bladder Cancer eV was founded on December 14, 2004 in Berlin. The members at the beginning were mainly affected by the disease and family members. The rapid formation of self-help groups in the major federal states with the aim of providing comprehensive advice and help resulted in the need to coordinate the work of the self-help groups belonging to the ShB and their regional associations and to support them by providing funds and organizing the exchange of experiences and training events. In addition, there was the need to represent the interests of the self-help groups and their regional associations in public and in relation to public institutions on a national and international level.

The relocation of the association's headquarters to Bonn to the House of Cancer Self-Help has improved cooperation with other self-help groups in the interests of the sick and patients. The ShB, for example, performs its tasks in cooperation with other non-profit organizations in the health sector operating in the Federal Republic of Germany. These include a. also charities, cancer societies, doctors, research and clinical institutions. This interaction is also a basis for cooperation with non-profit bladder cancer self-help associations abroad.

Board and membership

The federal board is elected for four years. He works on a voluntary basis . Members of the federal executive committee and self-help groups are almost all self-affected or have cancer (affected person competence). The association's office is located in the House of Cancer Self-Help in Bonn.

Forms of membership: The ShB has full members, honorary members and extraordinary members. Anyone affected by bladder cancer and their relatives or their life partner can be a full member. Honorary membership can be given to a personality who has rendered outstanding services to the ShB. The delegates' assembly decides on the award on the proposal of the board of directors or at least 20 members of the ShB.

Membership is acquired through the written application for membership, which must be sent to the ShB's office. Admission is confirmed in writing by the board of directors. A membership fee is not charged.

financing

The ShB is financed through donations, grants and sponsorship money. The administration and use of the association's assets is regulated by a financial regulation to be adopted by the delegates' assembly. According to its statutes, the ShB maintains its neutrality and independence vis-à-vis companies, organizations, parties, denominational associations and institutions. For this purpose, the ShB has given itself a “ declaration of self-commitment in dealing with commercial enterprises in the health sector” and recognizes the “declaration of neutrality and independence” required by the health insurance companies .

Information work

The supra-regional advice for patients is supplemented by publications and current information sheets. The factual information can be ordered free of charge or accessed on the Internet . This also applies to the magazine “Die Urnblase”. The members' magazine informs all members free of charge in May and November every year since 2007 “in detail and informatively about new therapies and findings in bladder cancer”. Upon request, the magazine will also be sent to practices and clinics nationwide free of charge. It is also available for download online.
