House of Cancer Self Help
The House of Cancer Self-Help - Bundesverband e. V. (HKSH) in Bonn is the central seat of leading non-profit aid organizations that dedicate themselves nationwide to the care of cancer patients of various forms of disease. The German Cancer Aid Foundation supports these self-help initiatives in order to continuously improve the supply network for people suffering from cancer in Germany. Since 2013, the building has housed the office of ten such national associations.
history
The house was founded in 2006. For this purpose, Krebshilfe made its former administration building (Thomas-Mann-Strasse 40 in Bonn) available. From there, the organization to fight cancer , a widespread disease, was built up and a large number of local groups were encouraged to help themselves in the fight against cancer.

The following nationwide self-help organizations are located in the house. Contact persons in the region can also be asked for:

This also includes participation in the information and advice service Infonetz Krebs . In the 2019 financial year, Krebshilfe supported the aid organizations under the umbrella of the House of Cancer Self-Help with over four million euros.
Goal and mission
Cancer self-help groups are often the first and most important point of contact for patients after acute treatment. Patients can draw courage and confidence from the exchange of experiences and ideas with those equally affected. The members of self-help groups are experts in questions of everyday life and lifestyle based on their experiences with their own illness. In this way, they can respond to the special practical and emotional needs of cancer patients, provide information about difficulties caused by illness and provide specific help, for example with the appropriate use of aids. In the group, those affected learn how others cope with their everyday lives and what they can do themselves to overcome the shock of diagnosis and therapy .
