The Cancer Infonetz is an information and advice service on the topic of cancer run by the German Cancer Society (DKG) and the German Cancer Aid Foundation (DKH) in Bonn . The information network is aimed primarily at cancer patients and their relatives and is intended to cover not only medical topics, but also psycho-oncological problems or social law issues. Advice and information material are offered free of charge. The service is financed with funds from the German Cancer Aid.

history

The prerequisite for the service created in 2014 was the agreement of the German Cancer Society and German Cancer Aid from 2012 on close cooperation. This alliance applies in the field of cancer information, for publications with a description of the problem that is understandable for patients as well as for information events and congresses. Employees could provide advice seekers with free information on the current state of medicine and science. In 2015, 10,000 discussions were held and written inquiries were answered.

Basics

The basis for the telephone advice and information service is a scientific database based on specialist articles, studies, legal texts and experience reports from those affected. According to the former head of the database project at the cancer society, Jutta Hübner , the contents are "prepared in such a way that the patients can understand them". The German Cancer Aid takes care of the consultation. The offer is intended as an additional service and is intended to support the patient in participating actively and in an informed manner in his treatment.

cooperation

Since 2017 , professional associations organized in the House of Cancer Self-Help in Bonn have also been offering their participation in nationwide telephone advice. Depending on the specialist topics, experts from the field such as Deutsche Leukämie- & Lymphom-Hilfe e. V. as well as other specialists from self-help associations who give cancer patients and their relatives "advice from practice" free of charge. In 2017, among around 8,000 people with cancer, the Infonetz Krebs advisory service often sought advice and help several times. In 2018 there are currently ten associations that cooperate with the German Cancer Aid on a voluntary basis.
