The self-transcendence 12 + 24 hour run Basel will take place at the St. Jakob sports facility in the center of Basel. Coordinates: 47 ° 32 ′ 11 ″  N , 7 ° 37 ′ 10 ″  E ; CH1903:  six hundred and thirteen thousand six hundred ten  /  265085 discharged. On a circuit of 1.1 kilometers in length. The organizer is the Sri Chinmoy marathon team. The run takes place annually in May.

history

The run has been in Basel since 1988. In 1993 and 1997 the European championship and in 1993, 1999 the German championships in 24-hour running were organized. From 2012 to 2014, the Swiss championship in 24-hour running was held. The run was broadcast live over the Internet from 2010–2016. In 2015 the Swiss championship in 12-hour running was held. In 2016, the German championship in 24-hour road running and the Swiss championship in 24-hour running were held in Basel. 2017 the Swiss championships in 12 hours running.

Records

International

In 1998, Yiannis Kouros ran 290.22 km in the men. It is the course record and at the same time the currently existing 24-hour world record on the road. Sigrid Lomsky ran 243.65 km for women in 1993, setting a new world record that was unbroken until 2011. In 2016, the Swede Maria Jansson ran 242.68 km, setting the annual world best and a new Swedish record.

Switzerland

In 1996 Hans-Peter Brönnimann was able to improve the Swiss 24-hour record, which is still unbroken today. In 2000, Ursula Adler set a new Swiss record in 24-hour running with 203.82 km. Denise Zimmermann broke in 2012 with 206.90 km. In 2014 she improved her own existing record to 210.55 km. And in 2015 she got the record back in Basel with 221.41 km.

Germany

There are three current (as of May 2016) German records in 12- and 24-hour running that were set in Basel.
