As a semi-aquatic e Animals ( Latin semis "half" aqua, "water") refers to animals as live both on land and in water. These include some types of amphibians (e.g. frogs ), reptiles (e.g. crocodiles ), birds (e.g. emperor penguins ), and mammals (e.g. seals ).

Semi-aquatic organisms have their living area in riparian zones. Due to the alternation of ebb and flow, they are exposed to constant changes between drought and flood, which require a high tolerance to terrestrial and aquatic environmental conditions.

The semi-aquatic habitat is not only populated by fully adapted species. Other terrestrial and aquatic species can be found periodically.
