The Karkstein transmitter is a broadcasting facility of the Südwestrundfunk (originally Süddeutscher Rundfunk ) in Bopfingen , which went into operation on July 24, 1964 as a television converter for the 1st program to supply Bopfingen, Bopfingen-Oberdorf and Bopfingen-Aufhausen and a 40 meter antenna carrier high, free-standing steel lattice tower used. From 1970 the Karkstein transmitter also served as a television converter for the 2nd and 3rd television programs and from 1986 to 1993 as a medium wave transmitter for the frequency 711 kHz with a power of 200 watts, with a long-wire antenna attached to the tower being used as the transmitting antenna.
