Sensui-jima ( Japanese 仙 酔 島 , formerly also 仙 醉 島 ) is an island in the Japanese Seto Inland Sea and part of the marine area of the port of Tomonoura . It belongs to the Fukuyama Township of Hiroshima Prefecture . The Bingojima Islands are to the west, the Hashirijima Islands to the south and the Kasaoka Islands to the east . Today the island is uninhabited, in 1995 two people lived here. However, it is still a tourist spot, which is visited in spring for the flower display ( hanami ) and in summer for swimming and camping. Various hiking trails lead over and around the island. A ferry, a scaled-down replica of the Iroha Maru , a steamship from the mid-19th century, leaves Tomonoura every 20 minutes during the day.
Every year in May the Tomonoura Kankō Taiami ( 鞆 の 浦 観 光 網 ) is held, a festival at which traditional net fishing is demonstrated. The island's name comes from the legend that "their beauty even drunk a hermit" ( 「仙人が酔うに程美しい島」 ).
The Hotel Kokumin Shukusha Sensuijima ( 国 民宿 舎 仙 酔 島 ) with various bathing facilities offers overnight accommodation .
To the southwest is the island of Kōgō-shima ( 皇后 島 ; 34 ° 22 ′ 50 ″ N , 133 ° 23 ′ 24 ″ E ), to the west of Benten-jima ( 弁 天 島 ; 34 ° 22 ′ 59 ″ N , 133 ° 23 ′ 11 ″ E ) and southeast of Tsutsuji-shima ( つ つ じ 島 ; 34 ° 22 ′ 44 ″ N , 133 ° 24 ′ 21 ″ E ).
