The Hashirijima Islands ( Japanese走 島 群島Hashirijima-guntō ) are a group of islands in the Japanese Seto Inland Sea . They form the easternmost islands of Hiroshima Prefecture . To the northwest are the islands of Tomonoura (especially Sensui-jima ) and to the east are the Kasaoka Islands of Okayama Prefecture . The archipelago consists of four islands (i.e. land masses with a flood coastline of at least 100 m), of which the main island Hashiri-jima is inhabited. The second largest island, Uji-shima, was still inhabited until 1963. As of 2010, 570 people lived on Hashiri-jima, 67 of them in the manufacturing sector , i.e. H. mainly fishing, 9 in the manufacturing sector and 30 in the service sector. The archipelago belongs to the municipality of Fukuyama , with Hashiri-jima forming the district of Hashirijima- chō .
