Construction of the 2.1 km long route and the three stations initially began in 2003 and was completed in June 2006. The line was inaugurated on January 15, 2007. The construction costs amounted to around 140 million SGD . It is a Sattelbahn of Hitachi . Four stations are currently being approached:

  • Sentosa Monorail Station (HarbourFront) (with transition to the metro )
  • Waterfront (since 2010)
  • Imbiah Station
  • Beach Station

The Waterfront Station was opened on February 1, 2010 with the opening of the "Resorts World Sentosa". It is located on the north shore of Sentosa Island and is being built on the existing route. All stops have half-height platform screen doors, and they also have elevators and escalators - in line with the standard in Singapore . Only the HarbourFront transfer station has full-height platform screen doors and is also air-conditioned.

business

There are currently six railcars , all of which are painted in different colors (purple, blue / turquoise, light green, orange, pink, red). The vehicles run every 3 minutes during rush hour, and the journey on the entire route takes eight minutes. Operating time is from 7 a.m. to midnight. The vehicles are designed for speeds of up to 80 km / h , but only reach approx. 50 km / h in normal operation. The system is operated by the Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC).

Since the Sentosa Express was not built by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore, there is no connection to the city's MRT / LRT transport network. The EZ-link card for cashless payments can, however, be used. The fare is currently SGD 4 for a day pass which also includes entry to Sentosa Island.

Transitions

There is a connection to the north-east line in HarbourFront . In addition, the Circle Line has also been running via HarbourFront since October 2011 .

The “Beach Tram ” and three bus lines stop at the Beach Station .

useful information

From 1982 to 2005 there was already a monorail, the " Sentosa Monorail ", on the island of Sentosa . However, this only operated on the island itself, without any connection to the mainland. This railway was also operated by the SDC. The monorail was discontinued in 2005 in order to be able to build the Sentosa Express.

Another connection from Sentosa to HarbourFront and on to Mount Faber is with the “ Singapore Cable Car ”.
