The Senussi Cave Railway was a 1941 during the Siege of Tobruk less than 400 meters long built military - narrow-gauge railway in Senussihöhle near Tobruk , Libya .
history
The Senussi Cave Railway was located between the Senussi cave and a military road laid out on August 28, 1941 above a wadi on the east side of the port of Tobruk .
The Senussi cave was stabilized with a concrete vault by the Italian army during the Second World War . In the summer of 1941 it was captured by British and Australian soldiers and prepared for use as a field hospital by the construction of the narrow-gauge railway, but was eventually used as a bomb-proof camp. She served the infantry - Company D of the Australian Army Service Corps as a bunker for the storage of up to 300 tons ammunition and supplies.
