The Seppeler Group is an association of German and Polish manufacturing service companies. The companies of the group specialize in hot-dip galvanizing , offer the execution of coatings and other additional work as well as logistics services and manufacture containers and gratings.
The parent company is Seppeler-Rietberg GmbH based in Rietberg (North Rhine-Westphalia). Seppeler-Rietberg GmbH holds the majority in 23 subsidiaries (including ten Verwaltungs-GmbHs) and a minority stake. The Seppeler Group emerged from Rietberg-Werke AG.
history
Rietberger and Berlin roots - early company history
The Rietberg-Werke go back to a pipe and sheet metal factory founded in 1919 by the merchant Clemens Lohaus in Rietberg, which was renamed in 1921 as the North German Mining and Industriebedarfs-Aktiengesellschaft and in 1925 as Rietberg-Werke Aktiengesellschaft . In 1936 the Seppeler Stiftung für Flug- und Fahrwesen acquired the majority of the shares in Rietberg-Werke AG . The foundation emerged in 1936 from a design office for aviation and driving systems established by Eduard Seppeler in Berlin in 1917 . Seppeler developed and produced engine test stands, refueling systems and measuring devices for fuel consumption and power generators for aviation in Berlin . In 1945 the Berlin production facilities were dismantled by the Soviet occupying forces. The Rietberg-Werke now traded as Rietberg-Werke, owner of the Seppeler Foundation .
The first galvanizing plant was put into operation in Rietberg as early as 1922. From 1923, the Rietberg-Werke produced wrought-iron transport barrels, especially for the mineral oil industry. In 1929 the company expanded its production program to include galvanized containers for mechanized agriculture. In the 1950s, the company produced slurry tanks, feed dampers and slurry pumps for agriculture. With the takeover by the Seppeler Foundation , Seppeler test stands and tank systems for fuel engines were also manufactured in Rietberg.
Contract galvanizing and coating
In the 1960s, contract galvanizing as a service for trade and industry became an important business activity for Rietberg-Werke . With the construction of a new hot-dip galvanizing plant, the company location expanded its capacities in 1965 and currently has a galvanizing tank 17.50 m in length. The corrosion protection and coating services are now being expanded to include special passivation (zinc clear) and color coatings.
Container construction
In the 1980s, the Rietberg-Werke developed the first special containers for environmental protection. Double-walled, explosion-pressure shock-proof, hot-dip galvanized storage and transport containers, originally designed for waste oil, are currently being supplemented by a range of special environmental protection containers and pump equipment for various liquid hazardous substances.
The way to the Seppeler Group
With the takeover of the limited majority of the company Helling & Neuhaus in Isselhorst , Rietberg-Werke GmbH & Co. KG added the steel grating production of Helling & Neuhaus and another hot-dip galvanizing plant to its production capacities in 1974 . In 1992, Helling & Neuhaus acquired a 50 percent stake in Fibresta GmbH , a sales company for glass fiber reinforced plastic grating systems. Seven other German galvanizing companies now belong to the group.
Around the turn of the century, the company expanded its activities to Poland in 2000 was in Chrzanów near Cracow the Ocynkownia Śląsk Sp. , The first foreign plant of Seppeler group established. Today two other locations in Kluczbork and Częstochowa belong to Ocynkownia Śląsk . Since 2002 the Seppeler Group has been involved in the Polish grating manufacturer Kraty Mostostal Krakow .
Seppeler Group and Dr. Klaus Seppeler Foundation
The companies that were then part of Rietberg-Werke GmbH & Co. KG first appeared as the Seppeler Group in 1991. The successor to the Seppeler Foundation for Aviation and Driving , which left the company in 2000, was taken over by the company- affiliated Dr. Klaus Seppeler Foundation . In 2004, the entire company was converted into a holding company with investments. As the parent company, Seppeler-Rietberg GmbH has since held majority stakes in Rietberg-Werke GmbH & Co. KG and the other subsidiaries. The Dr. Klaus Seppeler Stiftung is a limited partner of Seppeler Holding und Verwaltungs GmbH & Co. KG with special rights.
Business areas
Hot-dip galvanizing
Nine hot-dip galvanizing locations are in Germany and three in Poland. One of the largest galvanizing kettles in Germany is located in the Rietberg works. The galvanizing plants also carry out surface processing (sandblasting, coating, surface refinement) and assembly work, and logistics services (tour service, temporary storage) are also offered.
Seppeler Group companies galvanize steel frames and structures for buildings, grain silos, wind turbines, cable cars, interior fittings, steel sculptures and much more. For the new steel protective cover over the old sarcophagus of the damaged Chernobyl nuclear power plant, which was completed in 2016 , supports and other components were galvanized at Seppeler's subsidiary Ocynkownia Śląsk in Chrzanow.
Container technology
The Seppeler subsidiary Rietbergwerke GmbH produces stationary tank systems for self-consumption gas stations, mobile tank systems for agriculture and forestry, construction sites and mining, fuel extraction and refueling devices such as those required in car workshops, fuel containers for aggregates and heating devices, storage containers and others Collection container for the disposal of used oil and liquid hazardous substances.
Containers and tank systems are also custom-made according to customer specifications.
Gratings
The production of gratings takes place at the Seppeler subsidiary Helling & Neuhaus GmbH and at Kraty Mostostal Kraków. The plants produce gratings made of steel, aluminum, stainless steel and glass fiber reinforced plastic in standard dimensions and made to measure (heavy-duty gratings, facade gratings, shelves, stairs, fences).
Coating
Powder coatings are carried out by Arnsberg GmbH and Helling & Neuhaus GmbH . Wet coatings with liquid paint by spraying - also as fire protection coating - are carried out by all galvanizing plants in the group.
