The Seram rat ( Nesoromys ceramicus ) is a rodent from the group of old world mice (Murinae).
So far only a few specimens of this species have been found. The animals reach a head body length of around 13.5 centimeters, to which a 14 centimeter long tail comes. Their fur is soft and dense, it is olive brown in color, with the underside being a little lighter. The short ears are black, the feet and the almost hairless tail are dark brown. The muzzle is elongated.
These animals only live on the Moluccas island of Seram . All specimens were found in rainforests at 1500 to 1800 meters above sea level, otherwise nothing is known about their way of life.
Seram rats only inhabit a small area, less than 1700 km² in size, which is also threatened by deforestation. The IUCN lists the type it as "high risk" ( endangered ).
