The S-cruiser or 16-seater dinghy cruiser is a sailing boat designed for shallow waters . The dimensions of the construction class are set to a length over all (L. o. A.) Of a maximum of 7,000 mm and no maximum width (see building regulations). Current cracks have widths between 2,200 mm and 2,500 mm. The Jollenkreuzer is a cruising and racing sailors . Over 450 boats are registered with the German Sailing Association (DSV).

Construction

The name "16er dinghy cruiser " comes from the measured sail area of 16 m². Overlapping sail areas, for example the genoa , are not taken into account. Only the silhouette of the sails and the mast is calculated here. Therefore, the actual sail area is usually significantly larger.

As a cruising sailor, the S-Kreuzer is suitable as a sporty hiking boat for inland waters or areas near the coast. Due to the construction as a dinghy cruiser with a retractable sword and a shallow draft, you can moor directly on the bank. There are still a large number of older cruising boats that actively travel. In regattas , the 16-seater dinghy cruiser appears as an appropriately equipped racing yacht. He usually carries a wide range of sails. The modern standard equipment includes three foresails of 14 to 8 m² sail area, which can be exchanged during a regatta when the winds change . There are various trim options for the approximately 9 m² mainsail . The 32 m² spinnaker is often in different versions on board to cope with different wind conditions. As the first dinghy cruiser class of the German Sailing Association, a test approval for three boats for the alternative use of an asymmetrical gennaker with 32 m² was achieved in 2015 . Its alternative use is therefore allowed on a trial basis outside of the class regattas for the test boats (GER 441, GER 450, GER 455).

The boat class is common in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. As the youngest of the dinghy cruiser classes, the boats have been built since 1958. The development of the class took place in today's distribution area; the 15, 20 and 30 JK were also built and sailed in the GDR. The areas of the largest fleets are the Dümmer and the Steinhuder Meer in Lower Saxony, the Ammersee near Munich, the Plöner See in Schleswig-Holstein, and the Neusiedler See in Austria.
