Sergio Vieira de Mello Prize

The Sergio Vieira de Mello Prize ( Nagroda imienia Sérgio Vieira de Mello in Polish ) is an award for individuals and organizations who work for peaceful coexistence and cooperation between different societies, religions and cultures. It is awarded by the Villa Decius Foundation in Kraków with the support of the President of Poland and the Brazilian and Swedish ambassadors in Poland.

The award is named after the Brazilian UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Sérgio Vieira de Mello , who was killed in a bomb attack in Baghdad in 2003 .

Selection committee

The jury includes a representative of the Presidents of the Republic of Poland, the Brazilian and Swedish ambassadors to Poland, a representative of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees , a representative of the Polish Institute of National Memory, the Polish Znak Foundation and the chairman of Villa-Decius Foundation .
