Servando Gómez Martínez , also known as “ La Tuta ” (German: “the teacher”) or “ El Profe ” (German: “the professor”) (born February 6, 1966 in Arteaga, Michoacan , Mexico ) is the founder of the La drug cartel Familia Michoacana and, until his arrest, was the leader of the Knights Templar cartel ( Caballeros Templarios ), which was split off from it .

Criminal career

Gómez was a primary school teacher in Arteaga, hence his nickname "La Tuta" or "El Profe". He is on the list of the 37 most wanted drug lords published by the Mexican government in 2009 . He belongs to the new type of narco bosses who do not shy away from the public, give interviews in national and international media or publish videos on Youtube and express themselves on Twitter.

The Mexican security forces started a large manhunt for Gómez in 2014. The attorney general put a bounty of 30 million pesos on him. With the help of armed vigilante groups, he was mainly sought in the Terra Caliente region. On June 21, 2014, his son Huber Gómez Patiño was arrested by units of the Federal Police in Arteaga. On February 27, 2015, Gómez was arrested without resistance by members of the Federal Police in Morelia .
