La Familia Michoacana
" La Familia Michoacana " (German: "the Michoacan family") or La Familia for short is a Mexican drug cartel and criminal syndicate that originates from the Mexican state of Michoacán . The organization came into being after it split off from the Gulf Cartel in 2006 . The cartel controls the manufacture and distribution of drugs in Michoacan, and according to US security agencies, it smuggles large quantities of synthetic drugs and cocaine into the United States .
The co-founder and former leader of the cartel, Nazario Moreno González , known as " El Más Loco " (German: "the craziest"), preached the killing of enemies as a God-given right. Nazario Moreno's partners were José de Jesús Méndez Vargas , Servando Gómez Martínez and Dionicio Loya Plancarte; each individual is offered a $ 2 million reward for arrest.
González was shot dead by Mexican police in Apatzingán , Michoacán state , in December 2010 . After his death there were power struggles in which José de Jesús Mendez prevailed. During that time, the Los Caballeros Templarios group (Spanish for "The Knights Templar") split off.
On December 31, 2010, the Mexican government announced that one of the leaders of the cartel, Francisco Lopez Villanueva (“ El Bigote ” (German: “The Mustache”)) had been arrested in La Mira .
On June 21, 2011, the Mexican police arrested José de Jesús Mendez at a roadblock in Aguascalientes . The Public Security Secretariat declared the cartel dismantled and disbanded on November 2, 2011.
At the beginning of July 2014, marines arrested José María Chávez Magaña, known as “ El Pony ”, who had risen to become leader in 2011 , in Pénjamo in Guanajuato . However, videos of executions by La Familia were still released in 2020.
