Nazario Moreno González , also known as “ El Más Loco ” (German: “the crazy one”) or “ El Chayo ” (German: “the Rosary”) (born March 8, 1970 in Apatzingán , Mexico ; † March 9, 2014 in Tumbiscatío , Mexico) was the founder of the La Familia Michoacana drug cartel and a Mexican drug lord .

Criminal career

In 2000 Moreno was one of the founders of the Mexican drug cartel La Familia Michoacana and wrote a “Bible” for it with the title “ Pensamientos de El más loco ” (German: “Thoughts of the craziest”). In it he praised moral values ​​such as diligence, honesty and fear of God and derived from this the claim to particularly cruel treatment of his enemies.

He was on the list of the most wanted drug lords in Mexico, and the Mexican government offered a US $ 2 million reward for his arrest in 2009. In December 2010, the Mexican government announced that he had been shot dead by the Mexican police after a gun battle lasting several hours in Apatzingán, Michoacán state . With his body not found, rumors soon began circulating that he was still alive.

After his supposed death, there were power struggles within the drug cartel, in which José de Jesús Mendez prevailed as the new leader. During this time, the group Los Caballeros Templarios (Spanish for: The Knights Templar ) split off.

Nazario Moreno was tracked down by the Mexican Navy on March 9, 2014, the day after his 44th birthday, in the municipality of Tumbiscatío , Michoacán state . During the arrest attempt, he opened fire and was then killed by the marines , announced the attorney general.
