The Cártel de Jalisco Nueva Generación ( Spanish Cártel de Jalisco Nueva Generación ; CJNG) is a drug cartel in Mexico . It was founded in 2010 and has been considered the most powerful Mexican drug cartel since El Chapo's arrest in 2016. The CJNG is based in the state of Jalisco . Nemesio Ruben Oseguera Cervantes (alias El Mencho ) is referred to as the founder of the CJNG and the current leader. The US Treasury Department identified him and the CJNG as international drug traffickers in April 2015 and imposed sanctions.

history

After Ignacio Coronel was killed by the Mexican security authorities in July 2010, his former faction separated from the Sinaloa cartel and henceforth called itself Cártel de Jalisco Nueva Generación .

In September 2011 a video was published on YouTube in which the CJNG claimed responsibility for the murder of 35 Los Zetas members in Veracruz . A few days later, security forces found the bodies. In March 2012, the CJNG announced via video that it was fighting the Knights Templar cartel for supremacy in Michoacán . CJNG is said to have worked for the Sinaloa cartel until the summer of 2013. In September 2013, the CJNG announced its presence in Guanajuato by means of a Narcomanta .

In March 2015, five members of the Mexican federal police were murdered by the CJNG. In April 2015, fifteen Mexican police officers were murdered in an ambush by members of the CJNG. The attack was considered an act of revenge by the CJNG on the security forces for the killing of one of their leaders. It was one of the deadliest reprisals against security forces in Mexican history. In May 2015, the CJNG shot down a helicopter in western Jalisco state. Several inmates, including members of the security forces, were killed or seriously injured.

On the night of August 15-16, 2016, several gunmen abducted El Chapo's son , Jesús Alfredo Guzmán, and five other people from a restaurant in Puerto Vallarta . According to the Attorney General of the State of Jalisco , Eduardo Almaguer , the kidnappers belonged to the Jalisco Nueva Generación on.

On December 2, 2018, unknown perpetrators carried out a bomb attack on the United States Consulate in Guadalajara and damaged a building wall. But nobody was injured. On the Internet, the cartel threatened to attack the consulate.

In June 2020, the chief of police in Mexico City, Omar García Harfuch, was assassinated, survived injured and killed two security guards and a passerby. The Jalisco Nueva Generación was held responsible.

Arrests

  • In 2012, Eliot Alberto Radillo (aka El Pancho ) was arrested. He is said to have organized the drug deals, the extortion and the fight against the other drug cartels for the CJNG.
  • In January 2014, Ruben Oseguera Gonzalez (aka El Menchito ), El Mencho's son, was arrested by military security forces in Guadalajara . After twelve months, he was released from custody by a court on alleged lack of evidence. On June 24, 2015, he was arrested again by military security forces in Zapopan . He is said to be the CFO of the CJNG and number 2 of the CJNG.

According to the International Crisis Group from 2020, the CJNG did not have a monopoly of power in either Jalisco or any of the other Mexican states .
