Service clerk in aviation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Service clerk in aviation is an apprenticeship in Germany and is trained at airport companies, handling agents and airlines. Service clerks in aviation work in the customer-oriented area. They look after passengers on the ground, help with passenger and aircraft handling, baggage tracing services, marketing measures and accounting, coordinate payment processes and initiate measures in emergency situations. At some companies, for example at Deutsche Lufthansa AG , service clerks in air transport are also trained as flight attendants to work on board an aircraft.

Entry opportunities

Every year on August 1st, September or October of the respective year, airports, handling companies, airlines and vocational schools train service clerks in air traffic. Most companies that train this profession require a general or technical college entrance qualification.

Content of the training

Service clerks in aviation are primarily contacts for customers at the airport or with an airline. You take on tasks such as check-in, boarding, guest care and special services. But you can also be used internally in the administration of an airport or an airline. The job description is relatively flexible and is not limited to a specific activity within aviation. You can also work for tour operators or in a travel agency (with an IATA agency). The contents of the training are taught in the company and in the vocational school. Often the vocational school lessons take place as block lessons. Contents include general business administration, accounting, economics and social affairs, aircraft handling, airfare calculation, special business administration in aviation, health and aviation law.

Problems getting started

In 2002 only 103 new training contracts were signed. There were relatively few training positions with a relatively high number of applicants. Good academic performance in English, German and mathematics as well as practical experience in the service area are often required, as is the applicant's age of majority, as a large part of the company training takes place in shifts.

further education

After training has been completed, there are various options for further training, for example with initial courses (basic courses) at airlines for training as flight attendants. Service clerks in aviation have the opportunity to work in the following departments: Human Resources, Accounting (Finance), Customer Service, Group Reservations, Flight Operations, Controlling, Quality Management, etc. The average starting salary in 2011 was around € 1900 gross . In addition, there is the possibility of completing a degree on your own initiative.
