The Seton Portage Historic Provincial Park is a 0.7  ha large Provincial Park in the Canadian province of British Columbia and currently the most compact of the provincial parks in British Columbia . The park is located in Seton Portage in the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District , about 70 km west of Lillooet .

Deviating from the predominant nature conservation purpose of the other provincial parks, this park serves to preserve a historical site. Since it is a class C park , unlike the other provincial parks in British Columbia, it is not managed by the park administration BC Parks , but is managed by a private operator.

investment

The park is located between a Canadian National Railway and a road, on a narrow piece of land between Anderson Lake and Seton Lake .

history

Seton Portage Historic Provincial Park is a memorial to the first railroad in British Columbia. The route, which is only three kilometers long, was built in 1861 in the course of the Fraser gold rush to transport goods and people between two lakes on which traffic by canoe took place. The portage was known to the native Indians for thousands of years. The first white man who is known to have used them was Alexander Anderson, who from 1836 to 1839 built a fur trading post and mapped the region on behalf of the Hudson Bay Company .

The Provincial Park was established on April 11, 1972, with a size of 1.69 acres . The land on which the park is located was given to the province by the British Columbia Railway . In 2000, the park's protection status was changed by law.

activities

There is only a little information about the tourist infrastructure in the park. There are no recreational facilities.
