Seville de Oro was one of the earliest and most important city foundations of the Spanish conquistadors in the Amazon basin and was located on the Río Upano , east of today's city of Macas in the Ecuadorian province of Morona Santiago .

Sevilla de Oro was founded in 1575 by José Villanueva de Maldonado on behalf of the governor of Yaguarzongo , Juan Salinas Loyola. Melchor Vásquez de Ávila, governor of the originally neighboring governorate of Quijos , incorporated Seville and its surroundings into its own domain. Already in 1599 the city was destroyed during the great uprising of the Shuar , who revolted against the oppression and exploitation by the Spaniards. It is believed that escaped survivors from Seville founded de Oro Macas.

Sevilla de Oro was located in the area of the present-day parish of Sevilla Don Bosco in the canton of Morona , which dates back to the Salesian missions since the 1920s (the coordinates of which are given above).

A place called Sevilla de Oro can be found today in the province of Azuay bordering Morona Santiago . It is the capital of a canton of the same name.
