Sextus Roscius

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sextus Roscius from Amelia was a Roman citizen who lived in 80 BC. Was defended by the 26-year-old Marcus Tullius Cicero . He was charged with parricide and embezzlement. In his defense speech, Cicero presented Pro Sexto Roscio Amerino Lucius Cornelius Chrysogonus , a favorite of the dictator Sulla , as a beneficiary of the advanced indictment , who had cooperated with Titus Roscius Capito and Titus Roscius Magnus, two relatives of the defendant who were at odds over property disputes. The trial brought Cicero great fame, and Sextus Roscius was acquitted.

The events are also in the novel The Smile of Cicero by Steven Saylor shown.
