Shéhérazade
Shéhérazade is a play by Jules Supervielle from 1949.
The piece, for which Darius Milhaud and Georges Delerue provided the music for the world premiere by Jean Vilar , describes the intrigues at the court of Shariar and Scheherazade and refers to the setting of the collection of oriental tales The Thousand and One Nights .
Shariar kills all of his wives after the wedding night. And now he wants to win over the daughter of Vesir, the beautiful Sheherazade. Sheherazade is smart and starts starting a sequel story every night. But when Shariar's brother Shazenian falls in love with Sheherazade and confesses this after taking a truth drink, Shariar locks Sheherazade. She escapes with a flying horse. Shazenian accompanies them. But Sheherazde has a plan ...
A film adaptation was made in 1971 by Pierre Badel with Claude Jade (Shéhérazade), Pierre Michaël (Shariar), Alain Mottet (Shazenian), Anicée Alvina (Dinharzade) and Tsilla Chelton (magician).
