The Shag Point is a headland on the north coast of South Georgia . In the Bay of Isles , it lies between Camp Bay and Sunset Fjord .
British Discovery Investigations scientists mapped and named it in 1929. It is named after the resident blue - eyed shag ( Phalacrocorax atriceps , English imperial shag ). It was first recorded under this name on a 1931 nautical chart of the British Admiralty .
