Shahdadkot (Sindhi: شھدادڪوٽ Urdu: شہدادکوٹ) is a city within the Qambar Shahdadkot district in Sindh Province in Pakistan . The city is located near the border with Balochistan.

history

The old official name of Shahdadkot is Shahdadpur. There are still old registered documents from the British Indian times available that give the old name. The need to change the name arose when the postal service was started by the then British-Indian government. There was another city with the same name, Shahdapur, in what was then Hyderabad and is now in the Sangher district of Sindh, which caused acute mail problems. Postal deliveries from one city were incorrectly sent to another city, which is why the name of one of the two had to be changed.

In the summer season, the weather in the city is hot and dry. In May and June the temperature rises to 52 degrees. Due to the extremely hot weather, rice is a common crop in this region and has made the city the second largest rice market in Sindh Province.
