The Shahzada Memorial Endurance is an endurance ride that has been held annually in St. Albans, New South Wales , Australia since 1981 . The event was named after Shahzada , a trademark stallion of the Australian Arabian breed .

Shahzada

Shahzada was drawn from Ruth Kesia in Great Britain by Mootrub in 1913 and was transferred to Australia in 1925. There he started in 1920, 1921 and 1922 in a series of three major endurance rides, each of which was held over five days. He won the first 250 mile (approx. 400 km) race, finished second in the second 300 mile (approx. 480 km) race, and won the third 500 mile (approx. 800 km) race. He was also successful in sprint races over 1400 m.

After his racing career, Shahzada went into breeding. He became a trademark stallion of the Australian Arab breed. For eight consecutive years from 1926 to 1933 he was Champion Arab Stallion at the Sydney Royal Show. Over 40% of the horses listed in the first volume of The Australasian Arab Horse Stud Book carry Shahzada blood . In the Australian Arabian breed he was the only one of the formative stallions of his time who did not come directly from Crabbet Park .

The Shahzada Memorial Endurance runs over 400 km (250 miles) and takes place in August. The race is considered to be one of the longest endurance rides in the world. It is held in several stages over five days in several classes. Not all evaluations were carried out in all years. There are the following ratings: heavyweight, middleweight, lightweight, junior and open rating. Daily evaluations are also carried out at the event.

In addition to the Shahzada Memorial 400 km, a three-day 120 km distance ride is held in parallel.
