Shaler is an impact crater on the far western edge of the lunar front , southeast of Mare Orientale , at the northern end of Vallis Bouvard and southeast of Wright Crater . The rim of the crater is irregularly shaped and the interior is largely flat.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1964 after the American geologist and paleontologist Nathaniel Shaler .
