Shanadoo was a group of four Japanese girls , but first produced in Germany and later in Japan . They became known in the summer of 2006 through the release of their debut single King Kong .

Band history

The band consists of the members Marina, Manami, Junko and Chika. They were produced by David Brandes .

With the exception of Marina, they worked together as race queens (models at racing events) in the Vivace advertising band for the JGTC 2004 in their home country . They released only two songs on two compilations and one DVD.

Shanadoo's songs initially consisted of cover versions of the Eurodance project E-Rotic , which was also produced by David Brandes.

In Japan they are marketed by the Avex Trax record company , which also has contracts with the well-known J-Pop stars Ayumi Hamasaki , Kumi Kōda , Every Little Thing and Namie Amuro . As of 2009, they only released in Japan.

Career

2006: Welcome to Tokyo

In 2006, Welcome to Tokyo , their first album, was released. The biggest hit from it was King Kong , which was a single alongside My Samurai and Guilty of Love .

The song King Kong was originally from E-Rotic . This has already been provided with a text in Japanese by the J-Pop group HINOI Team . The melody for Guilty of Love was taken from the E-Rotic song The Power of Sex and My Samurai used the melody from Fred Come to Bed (also by E-Rotic).

The album Welcome to Tokyo was also released in Japan in a DVD edition, which contains various music videos and making-ofs. Shanadoo dance the dance style Para Para, which is well known in Japan, to their songs . The Japanese album contains four tracks that could not be found on the CD that was widely used in Germany. Among other things, the piece Hypnotized . Four months later a limited edition of the album Welcome to Tokyo including the DVD was released in Germany . In addition to the extended versions of the songs King Kong and My Samurai , it included the single Hypnotized and the title Sayonara Blue .

The song Wake Me is a cover of the song Save Me from the 1997 album Gotta Get It Grooving the band E-Rotic that for the produced also by David Brandes girl group in 2005, Vanilla Ninja as My Puzzle Of Dreams has been covered that on the album Blue Tattoo appeared. In 2010 Brandes and Opinioners covered the song again for the pop singer Simone under the German title When the Ice Age Begins .

2007: The Symbol

On October 5, 2007, Shanadoo released another single. It's the song Japanese Boy , a new edition of the 1981 one-hit wonder by singer Aneka .

On December 7, 2007, The Symbol released a second album and another single, Think About . At Think About , Shanadoo made a change of image that was reflected in sound and style.

Since 2009: Activities in Japan

After there were no more activities in Germany in 2008, activities shifted to Japan, where they are under contract as Vivace from avex trax .

There they released their third album, Launch Party, on November 25th, 2009 . It has a different style of music: electro, dance, drum and bass. The first single was Next Life ; The second single, World's End Supernova / Love Space Ship Digital , was released as a download in Japan. Besides the album there are also two remixes from Carry On and Peaceful Morning .

In early 2010 another song by Shanadoo with a feat was released. Paper Girl and is available on DJ Yummy's DISK CD with another remix. On February 9, 2011, the dance single Shine , which was produced by Caramel Pod and Next Life, was released for download . On the same day there was an online livestream in which Shanadoo sang World's End Supernova at their Shine release party .

On January 15th, 2012 they gave a live concert in Tokyo, which was their last public activity to date. In May 2014, the group announced its official breakup. The member Chika now works as a DJ in the Japanese EDM and club scene under the artist name "DJ C'k".

2016: Ten year anniversary

On March 7, 2016, DJ C'k released a remake of My Samurai on Soundcloud to mark the 10th anniversary of Shanadoo . It's also available on YouTube . On June 27, 2016 she released an English version of Shanadoo's Guilty of Love on Soundcloud.

On June 22nd, 2017, pictures were posted showing the girls united, with the heading "Shanadoo 2017" above. The pictures are available on the Instagram and Facebook profiles of the former members and have also been shared on fan pages.
