Shankill Castle ( Irish Caisleán Sheanchille ) is a ruined castle in Shankill , a suburb of the Irish capital Dublin .
history
Archbishop Henry de Loundres had the castle built in 1229 as the administrative center of his extensive estates. From 1480 John Lawless lived there at the behest of Archbishop John Walton . The castle remained associated with his family until 1683 when it was leased to Sir John Domville . Around 1690 a house was added to the castle. In the 1710s, the castle returned to the Lawless family.
Today only four wall fragments and the tower remain.
