features

Sharman rock kangaroos, like most kangaroos, have long, powerful hind legs and short front legs, and their muscular tail is long. Their weight is around 4.1 to 4.4 kilograms, with the males being slightly heavier than the females. Their fur is gray to gray-brown on the upper side, the underside is light brown. On the face they have a light cheek stripe, the feet and paws are dark, as is the tip of the tail.

These kangaroos live in Australia , they have a very small range. This is located in northeast Queensland near the city of Ingham . Their habitat are rocky areas covered with forests.

They are nocturnal animals that rest in crevices, caves or under overhangs during the day. At night they go in search of food, to do this they look for areas overgrown with grass or open forest areas. Their diet consists of grasses, herbs and other plant material. They live in groups that can contain up to 40 animals.

Taxonomy

The first scientific description of the species was made during a revision of the genus Petrogale by the Australian zoologists Mark DB Eldridge and Robert L. Close in 1992.

Sharman rock kangaroos are relatively common in their small range and are not exposed to major threats. The IUCN lists them as " near threatened ".
