Sharon Afek (born August 10, 1970 ) is an Israeli general .

Life

Afek studied law at Tel Aviv University . After completing his studies, he joined the Ha-Praklitut Ha-Tzvaʿit , a special unit of the Israel Defense Forces. From 1987 to 1993 he participated on the Israeli side in the First Intifada , from 2000 to 2005 in the Second Intifada , in 2006 in the Lebanon War and in 2014 in Operation Protective Edge . In October 2015 he was appointed Brigadier General. In May 2018, Afek was promoted to general in Israel. Afek is the first openly gay general in the Israel Defense Forces .
