Shavette DOVO Solingen

The Shavette is a razor with an exchangeable blade and is therefore used for wet shaving . The name stands for the razor with an exchangeable blade made by DOVO Solingen and sold in Germany under the brand "Shavette" . Since January 1985 the trademark "Shavette" for the company DOVO Stahlwaren Bracht GmbH & Co. KG has been registered with the patent and trademark office. In the hairdressing trade and by other manufacturers it is called an interchangeable blade knife or a razor. Interchangeable blade knives from other manufacturers are often incorrectly referred to as "Shavette". Other notable manufacturers of interchangeable blade knives are the German companies NTS and Tondeo , which are also based in the blade city of Solingen , as well as the companies Bolzano and Universal from Italy and the company Feather from Japan .

The "Shavette" combines elements of a straight razor and a safety razor , which means that they are handled differently. In contrast to the safety razor, the user has a clear view of the cutting edge. In contrast to the classic razor, the blade does not have to be stripped or sharpened, but is replaced by a new, inexpensive one if necessary. This has advantages, which is why the shavette has always been used for shaving at the men's hairdresser or barber . There it is also often used to shave the neck. The "Shavette" is recommended by users of knife shaving as a transition from safety razors or system razors to razors.

In the majority of the models sold, three blades of different lengths can be used, which are attached to the shavette with the help of various holders. Short, conventional razor blades have the advantage that they are very sharp and widely used. Medium- length , one-sided razor blades represent a compromise between length and sharpness and are also relatively easy to acquire. Long, special razor blades have the advantage that their use comes closest to that of a conventional razor. However, they are only available from specialist retailers.
