The Sheer Point (English for sheer headland ) is a headland on the north coast of South Georgia . It is east of Fine Point on the north bank of Prince Olav Harbor .
Scientists from the British Discovery Investigations mapped it between 1929 and 1930 and named it Steep Point . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee changed this name in 1991, because there is already a headland of this name on South Georgia with the Steep Point on the east bank of Possession Bay .
